The Most Hated Celebs Of 2024
People are drawn to fame, and as such, we tend to pay a lot of attention to famous people. While many celebrities are worshipped by their adoring fans, it's equally easy for a famous person to fall out of favor with the general public.
These are some of the celebrities who are the most hated in 2024. The reasons for these downfalls are varied — from changing public perception to scandal to simply losing a rap beef — but it's safe to say that the popularity of these celebs is on a downward trajectory.
DaBaby
Rapper DaBaby has built much of his image on raw lyrical content and an unapologetic public persona. This has won him legions of adoring fans, but also lands him in hot water periodically.
A lukewarm apology in response to homophobic comments he made during a 2021 concert performance made DaBaby's public image take a hit, and further incidents — including violent altercations and allegations of unprofessional behavior — have caused the public to sour on him further.
JoJo Siwa
Social media star JoJo Siwa has had a rough go as she makes the transition from child star to adult celebrity. Her outsized, fun personality has drawn its fair share of critics, with accusations that it doesn't work as well now that she's an adult.
Siwa has also been a polarizing figure with her openness regarding her romantic experiences and relationships. While this transparency is refreshing to many of her fans, others feel that this is attention-seeking behavior. They also don't like her rebrand or the music that came from it.
Jennifer Lopez
J.Lo has been in the public eye for decades now, but the response to her 2023-2024 resurgence shows that the public may have soured on the pop queen.
Her much-hyped reunion — and subsequent breakup — with Ben Affleck made her tabloid fodder for all the wrong reasons, and an aborted concert tour also made negative headlines for Lopez. This all dovetails with reports of classic "diva behavior" that have surfaced and resurfaced throughout 2024.
Drake
Drake had the Midas touch early in his career, but 2024 has been the worst year yet for the Canadian rapper. While he'd feuded with other rappers before, his 2024 beef with Kendrick Lamar took on a more personal tone.
Not only did Drake decisively lose the war of words, the battle itself drew attention to allegations that have long surrounded Drake — particularly allegations of grooming and inappropriate relationships.
Mehmet Öz
Mehmet Öz, better known as Dr. Oz, has been a celebrity doctor in the public eye for many years — but his more recent health advice has raised some eyebrows.
Öz presents himself as a credible, responsible doctor, but his frequent endorsements of unverified "miracle" treatments have damaged his credibility significantly. Furthermore, his moves to enter the political arena have been roundly panned by pundits on both sides of the political aisle.
Jay-Z
Rapper turned rap mogul Jay-Z has slowly but surely turned into one of the more disliked figures in entertainment. He's fallen out of favor with many of his fans, who've criticized his long-term shift from authenticity to money-driven business executive.
An extension of this more "corporate" image for Jay-Z is the fact that he's remained silent on several social and political issues — a marked change for a man who was once a staunch advocate for social justice.
Amy Schumer
Amy Schumer has been perhaps the most hated comedian in show business for several years now, and that momentum hasn't slowed much in 2024 — even though we don't have much in terms of recent news.
While Schumer had her own show, she faced backlash almost from the start over allegations of joke-stealing and simply not being funny. Her outsized public persona, which includes an active social media presence, has led some to accuse her of virtue signaling.
Lizzo
Musician Lizzo won legions of adoring fans for her empowering music and messages of body positivity, but this adoration has dwindled in 2024. She's been accused of mistreating her backup dancers and maintaining an unprofessional attitude with others she's worked with in the past.
This alleged behavior is a marked difference from her public persona, which emphasizes positivity and respect. Lizzo's response, which was seen as dismissive or flippant (even though still technically an apology) attracted further criticism.
Machine Gun Kelly
Machine Gun Kelly is no doubt a talented musician, with a career that's moved from rap to pop-punk. It was this genre shift that caused many fans to sour on him, accusing the musician of chasing trends and money rather than making authentic music.
The optics of Machine Gun Kelly's personal life have also worked against him. A high-profile relationship with actress Megan Fox has seen the couple frequently overshare in a way that's off-putting.
Travis Scott
Travis Scott's reputation has never really recovered from the 2021 Astroworld tragedy, in which multiple people were killed and injured at one of his concerts in Houston.
Scott's handling of the situation, from safety precautions to his eventual response, has been criticized. While it's understandable that he would avoid commenting on such a tragedy (particularly with its legal repercussions), it's created the perception that he hasn't properly atoned for what happened.
Mark Zuckerberg
The head honcho of Meta (formerly Facebook), Mark Zuckerberg has faced criticism for years over the way that his platforms handle data privacy and misinformation. His continued tech push — which now includes VR through the Metaverse — has also yielded mixed reactions.
Adding to the criticism that's always surrounded him, Zuckerberg's public persona — where he insists on being a public-facing figure while appearing robotic and detached — hasn't done him any favors in the court of public opinion.
Logan Paul
Social media star Logan Paul has been a polarizing figure ever since he first attracted a following, and this trend only accelerated in 2024. His involvement in the "Cryptozoo" scandal caused investors to accuse him of scamming them — and his dismissive response only added fuel to the fire.
Paul has also crossed over into the world of boxing and pro wrestling, which some fans have criticized for being money- or fame-focused, rather than having a true passion for these endeavors.
Hilaria Thomas Baldwin
Hilaria Thomas Baldwin is best known for being Alec Baldwin's wife — and also for frequently passing herself off as Spanish, with a Spanish accent, despite being born and raised in the United States.
This alone has made her a widely criticized and mocked figure. Even outside of the claims of cultural appropriation, her family-focused brand has been criticized as being privileged and out of touch, particularly as she attempts to connect to middle-class followers.
6ix9ine
Rapper 6ix9ine seems to be addicted to controversy, as his provocative behavior, legal troubles, high-profile conflicts and attention-seeking behavior never seem to end. After cooperating with police against former gang associates in 2019, he was branded as a "snitch" in the rap community.
Combative behavior on social media, including feuds with other artists, has led many followers to view 6ix9ine as a villain — a label that he's probably proud of.
Kylie Jenner
Calling a member of the Kardashian-Jenner family for being wealthy, out of touch, and superficial seems like an obvious statement — but this perception has hurt Kylie Jenner, even as her beauty empire continues to thrive.
Jenner's brands have been criticized for promoting unattainable beauty ideals and fueling insecurity. It's also rumored that Jenner has undergone cosmetic surgery to alter her appearance, which only adds to the backlash for her being seemingly inauthentic.
Chrissy Teigen
Chrissy Teigen is viewed by her fans as a relatable personality, but this perception seems to have soured somewhat in 2024. Past social media behavior has led to allegations of cyberbullying, and her subsequent apology was viewed as self-serving and insincere.
Like Kylie Jenner, Teigen has also faced increasing criticism for being out of touch, thanks largely to social media posts that show off her lavish lifestyle — not to mention "candid" moments that were obviously rehearsed.
Woody Allen
Woody Allen is a once-beloved director who made some of the most critically-acclaimed, introspective movies of the 20th century. That said, he's been facing criticism for decades stemming from his marriage to Soon-Yi Previn, the adopted daughter of his former partner Mia Farrow.
The relationship was widely regarded as inappropriate, and things only got worse for Allen when his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow, accused him of abuse. Renewed conversations about abuse in Hollywood have kept Allen and his actions in the public eye.
James Corden
British comedian James Corden built a successful career as a late show host in the United States, with segments like "Carpool Karaoke" frequently going viral — but Corden has been disliked for just about as long as he's been famous.
Numerous stories have emerged about Corden being difficult or unpleasant to deal with. This perception might be part of the reason for so many people souring on his comedic presence, which is frequently criticized for being grating or fake.
Jake Paul
It's safe to say that both Jake and Logan Paul will wind up on any list like this, and Jake Paul earns his spot thanks to continued controversial behavior and public feuds.
Paul saw a meteoric rise in the social media world, was brought back down to earth after numerous controversies, and he attempted to reinvent himself. This reinvention took the form of a boxing career and a return to his old form: Attention-seeking, abrasive, and controversial.
James Charles
James Charles was once celebrated in the makeup and influencer world, but a series of scandals has turned him into a reviled public figure. Allegations of inappropriate behavior with underage fans have become too loud to ignore, and his apologies were viewed as inadequate and insincere.
Charles has attempted to rebrand or reinvent himself, but his new content has failed to take off. His perceived lack of growth and accountability could irreparably damage his career.
Kris Jenner
"Momager" of the Kardashian-Jenner family, Kris Jenner is undeniably a savvy businesswoman who deserves the most credit for building her family into a multi-billion dollar brand.
Of course, this success is a double-edged sword, as it makes Kris Jenner an easy target for those who want to criticize a culture that's obsessed with fame and material goods. It's also led to the perception that Jenner views parenting and family life as transactional rather than organic and loving.
Chris Brown
It's hard to believe that Chris Brown still has a musical career, considering his high-profile domestic violence case with Rihanna took place all the way back in 2009, and charges of domestic violence only continued to follow him in the years that followed.
Brown has continued to make music, and his unapologetic approach to troubling events in his past has made him a target for criticism. While his career continues, he'll never be able to fully rid himself of this baggage.
Kim Kardashian
Kim Kardashian is a reality TV trailblazer, which also makes her a figurehead for a society that values wealth, beauty standards, and media fame above all else.
Part of Kim K's empire is her Skims beauty line, which has been criticized for promoting an unrealistic beauty image. This, coupled with a highly curated social media presence and public image, has made Kim Kardashian the embodiment of fame-driven consumerism.
Danny Masterson
From playing Hyde on That '70s Show to serving 30 years to life in prison, it's hard to think of a celebrity whose career has taken more of a turn than Danny Masterson.
Allegations of assault, which had been swirling for years, grew more serious in 2023 when Masterson was convicted of assaulting two women. A third count resulted in a hung jury, but Masterson was handed a lengthy prison sentence.
Jada Pinkett Smith
Will Smith's slap on Chris Rock at the Oscars turned public attention on Smith's wife, Jada-Pinkett Smith, and this compounded a public perception that was already souring on Pinkett Smith.
She's been accused of oversharing and manufacturing drama through her social media posts and "Red Table Talks" where she discusses highly personal matters — including her "entanglement" with singer August Alsina. In general, she's often regarded as vague and self-serving.
Ellen DeGeneres
Ellen DeGeneres' long-running talk show was known for its positive, uplifting style — but allegations made by those who worked behind the scenes painted a much different story. It appears that when the cameras were turned off, Ellen's kind persona was just an act.
While she attempted to address these allegations of bullying and mistreatment, her response was seen as tone-deaf and self-serving. A Netflix special in which she made further excuses only further damaged her image.
Kanye West
Where Kanye West goes, controversy is sure to follow — and while 2024 has been a relatively low-key year by his standards, it comes hot on the heels of two major controversies: A series of unapologetically anti-Semitic remarks made on a podcast, along with his high-profile breakup with Kim Kardashian.
Since then, Kanye's done what Kanye will do: Make weird rants on social media and behave erratically. While his musical artistry is unmatched, his personal issues have alienated many once-loyal fans.
Sean "P. Diddy" Combs
Things went from bad to worse in 2024 for Sean Combs, as the man better known as P. Diddy was arrested on a slew of charges ranging from racketeering to human trafficking.
These were hardly the first legal issues Combs had ever faced, but they were by far the most serious. While the case is ongoing, more details will eventually emerge in court — and speculation that other high-profile celebrities could also be implicated could make this an incredibly high-profile trial.
Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex
Prince Harry of Sussex, who formally departed from royal duties in 2020, initially had a great deal of empathy and momentum on his side as he detailed the stresses of life as a prince.
However, his continued interviews and airing of grievances has caused the public to sour on the prince, as it appears that he's exploiting his experiences for fame and money — all while claiming that he just wants to be left alone.
Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex
Harry's wife, Meghan Markle, is a polarizing figure as well, as she formed the other half of the Harry/Meghan media juggernaut. The couple has been viewed as self-serving throughout their many media appearances.
While many of Markle's criticisms are undoubtedly valid, her continual willingness to put herself in the public spotlight has significantly eroded much of the sympathy and support she originally received.
